The Importance of Introductions When Writing Research Papers.

The Importance of Introductions When Writing Research Papers.

The article “A Small- Scale Study Of Primary School English Language Teachers’ Classroom Activities And Problems” ( Arikan 2011) presents some inconsistencies mainly regarding the introduction section that are going to be discussed in this paper.

Regarding The Creating a Research Space (C.A.R.S) model that Swales and Feak (2012) provided, Move 1 is perceived when he states the bibliography review. He mentions authors and provides their point of view connected to the topic he is discussing. However, he does not mention what has been done in his research, which leaves the reader with a clear sense of uncertainty.

As far as move 2 is concerned, it can be said that he raises questions that need to be addressed in this study but, it seems, he does not establish the niche. That is, he does not narrow down the topic of study. He just mentions what type of activities, students need to be presented in order not to be passive in class.

Finally, regarding move 3, he does not outline the purpose of his study neither he fully indicates the research paper structure. The author needs to do that in order to engage the readers in this investigation and help them navigate into interesting and helpful topics of research that may become useful for them.

All in all, it can be concluded that many inconsistencies appeared in this article. So, in order to prevent this, it is of utmost importance to pay attention to APA style (2010), Swales and Feak (2012) moves following the correct order when writing any piece of paper, being in this case a research paper.
