Another Opportunity for Marcos: The Rebellious Student

At a prestigious secondary private school in Mar del Plata, there was a boy called Marcos in 1st year who refused to work or participate in the English class. Apart from that, Marcos behaved terribly bad. He talked in class, distracted his classmates, and interrupted the teacher when she was explaining. Students had English lessons three days a week for one hour. Mrs. Manzanares did not know what to do to make Marcos changed his attitude. She had tried everything. Every time Marcos behaved incorrectly, the teacher had to interrupt the class and talk to the student or even send him to the headmaster’s office. It was exhausting. Since anything the teacher did work, she got frustrated because the situation did not seem to change. Similarly, in the four previous classes that I observed, Marcos kept on misbehaving. Surprisingly, one day, in the middle of an exam, Marcos asked the teacher if he could do it. Shocked, the teacher agreed, and Marcos started to do the exam. When he finished, the boy told the teacher he was sorry, and that he realized he had been having an unacceptable attitude and that he wanted to change. He added that he had some personal problems with his family and that that was affecting his behavior. Mrs. Manzanares understood him and told him she was glad to hear that. She was going to help him catch up on his homework. From that day on, Marcos began participating in class and behaving properly. He completely changed his attitude.
