The Importance of Introductions When Writing Research Papers.

The Importance of Introductions When Writing Research Papers. The article “A Small- Scale Study Of Primary School English Language Teachers’ Classroom Activities And Problems” ( Arikan 2011) presents some inconsistencies mainly regarding the introduction section that are going to be discussed in this paper. Regarding The Creating a Research Space (C.A.R.S) model that Swales and Feak (2012) provided, Move 1 is perceived when he states the bibliography review. He mentions authors and provides their point of view connected to the topic he is discussing. However, he does not mention what has been done in his research, which leaves the reader with a clear sense of uncertainty. As far as move 2 is concerned, it can be said that he raises questions that need to be addressed in this study but, it seems, he does not establish the niche. That is, he does not narrow down the topic of study. He just mentions what type of activiti...

Unmotivated Secondary School Students in English Language Lessons: An Overview of What is Beyond This Disruptive Situation

Unmotivated Secondary School Students in English Language Lessons: An Overview of What is Beyond This Disruptive Situation     According to Copland et al. (2013) over the years, students’ motivation in English language lessons at schools has been a challenging topic for educators around the world . Teachers are constantly trying to provide their students with entertaining and original ways to introduce topics and do engaging activities in class. However, that does not seem to work at all since there is still a growing number of unmotivated learners in almost every class. Consequently, unmotivated pre-teenage learners' performance might be affected.  To carry out research about this topic, the following issues are going to be addressed in this research paper: the techniques that teachers might put into practice to improve their pre-teenage students’ motivation in their English language class and the ways in which teachers might support unmotivated students at work. ...

A Comprehensive Analysis of an Abstract of a Research Paper

The Effects of Two Language-Focused Preschool Curricula on Children’s Achievement through First Grade To begin with, the abstract of this article is, according to Swales and Feak (1994), a conference abstract. They are longer than the ones included at the beginning of a research paper. This abstract does not comply with the required length which is a page. As for linguistic features, this abstract complies with most of them. It contains full sentences, the use of past tenses, and impersonal passive use, too.  Moreover, the absence of negatives can be spotted (Swales and Feak, 1994). However, there are some instances of abbreviations and jargon. Regarding the conclusion, they tend to be written in present and the opening sentences in present or present perfect. In this case, the conclusion is written in the past tense. Finally, it can also be added that no tense variation in the sentences describing results can be observed. A Thorough Analysis of In-text Citations and References based on APA style

The American Psychological Association (APA) has established a style of documentation of sources used in academic writing, mainly in the Social Sciences, like Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, and Education as well.   It is of utmost importance to bear in mind two aspects when following APA style: the in-text citations and the reference page. In-text citations include the author’s name and the publication date of sources. The reference page goes at the end of the paper and it takes its own page. It lists all the sources that a writer has used in a paper. The purpose of the present paper is to analyze the in-text citations and the reference list of the article Beyond Reflection: Teacher Learning as Praxis by Hoffman-Kipp, Artiles, and López-Torres (2003) on the basis of the APA manual 6th edition. The APA manual (2002) states several rules to follow for in-text citations such as: in an author-date style, in-text citations usually require the last name of the author(s)...
